my flaming brain

Dream: Bagdad Biotech Prison Work

My Dream:

I'm in Bagdad the warzone,
and I'm in prison.
I'm on the phone in our spacious hotel room cell
talking to my sister on the phone for an hour or so
about the trip and what it's like here.

Then I'm in the infirmary/lab/vet clinic.
working on a patient.
A guard enters, "hey, anybody know anything about genetics?"
I was new and didn't raise my voice.
Guard comes over anyway.
"hey you, you know anything about DNA?"
and hands me a report.

A truck had been bombed.
It was carrying a huge amount of wheat.
Possibly genetically modified wheat.
*gasp*
"Oh, so like you just want me to isolate the DNA
and maybe use some PCR to identify GMO DNA tags?
I can do that!
Oh cool, I get to extract the DNA old school
with like reagents instead of qiagen columns
...
You guys don't have any columns do you?"

And I thought, 'huh, working in industry is kinda fun.'

And then I thought, OMFG THE ROAMING CHARGES OF TALKING ON THE PHONE FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR FROM IRAQ!!!!!!
