oh dear mac os god...

i'm screwed...i think.

tonight i was changing some settings on my 2 year old mac iBook (the last powerPC version) and I restarted it.

Suddenly I've lost all my files that were on my desktop (folders and all their contents). Data is gone. Student records are gone. Class materials are gone. Teaching materials are gone. Pictures are gone. Strangely enough though my harddisk space was not changed! it appears that they are still on my harddrive but macOS X can't see them for some reason.

At the same time, not only did i lose some files but not others (the ones in folders like Music, Pictures are not affected but the ones in Documents are). God I'm stressed. This shit wasn't backed up. Some of my passwords may be deleted too but I'm not sure.

Lastly, I forgot to register my extra warranty protection on my mac so I probably won't be able to get free tech support from the Apple Store.

Fuck. I guess it could be worse. I could have lost this all a few weeks ago.

UPDATE: I figured it out and got my files back. thanks everyone! now if only i could get rid of this awful sore throat...
