So, world-wide Acetonitrile shortage. I got to spend today calling every vendor I could think of to see if anyone could help my thirsty HPLC. Some places are so far behind they won't even sell it on backorder.

Anyone know how that happened? One sales rep told me a couple of stories, but she had no idea how true they were.

Acetonitrile Synthesis

Anyone have a suggestion for a batch route to acetonitrile? I see several continuous methods on the web.

Why Not Recycle?

I was just wondering if anyone had thought of recycling there solvents. I've heard that you save around 70% and there was a product that was claiming to save up to 90% of solvent consumption. Here's a link:

Re: Why Not Recycle?

There is lots of spent aceto.
However, bringing it up to ultrapure or HPLC grade is easier said than done.
If you blend all sources, then too complex to clean up well.
If only one source, not enough to run efficiently.
Recovered aceto is going to non-critical, forgiving end-uses.

Acetonitrile shortage due to china and slow down in fiber and car industry.
China stopped production due to olympics.
Acetonitrile is a by-product of acrylonitrile and used in acrylic fibres and ABS in cars.

Hopefully then it will be a short-lived shortage.....

go to Wikipedia. Curious enough, the current shortage of this solvent has been already issued there.
"Stories" are true, i work in the field.

have an acetonitrile source if anyone is interested

My firm is currently in the process of sourcing HPLC Grade Acetonitrile directly from a manufacturer in China. We are looking at getting a couple of 55-gallon drums from our internal use. If anyone is interested, we might be able to bump up our order to cover your demands.

It will take approx. 45 days to get it to the US by ocean since it is a hazardous substance after which we can bottle it in 4-lit units for shipment (or ship the whole drum to you).

You can forward your inquiries to me at acetonit09@gmail.com

We have EMD AX0142-1 Acetonitrile, OmniSolv®, for HPLC Gradient Analysis, Spectrophotometry, Gas Chromatography 4L bottle.

Unlike the competition, our price is the same as it is in EMD Chemicals website.

You can reach us at 888-522-3472.

replacement mobile phase

Our lab runs 8 pumps 24/7 at 1ml/min. So we consume a lot!
Since the shortage, we've switched to 40% methanol. The mobile phase prep is much easier and the retention time works out even better for us than ACN.

Acetonitrile HPLC

A little know secret is that Spectrum Chemical has plenty. When you call though, ask for the sales rep for your area because the customer service people won't tell you this.

acetonitrile shortage corrections

There was no fire at Fisher and the damage to the INEOS plant in Texas was minimal and did not affect the shortage to any degree. The shortage was due to acetonitrile (ACN) being a by-product in the production of acrylonitrile (AN) by the "Sohio process". 90% of the world's ACN is made that way. AN is the "A" in ABS plastic which is used for cars, appliances, phone and computer housings, etc. All these prodicts are down in sales. So AN production is down because ABS demand is down and thesefore the production of by-product ACN is down. Several synthetic processes exist but are too costly. INEOS has i9mproved the yield ratio for ACN so the shortage is finally going away.

2008 toyota tacoma truck review

[b]2007 toyota tacoma prerunner gas mileage
Toyota's Tacoma model has been a top-seller among pickups for quite awhile. Truck variant of Toyota's Tacoma meets all the requirements to off-road driving. The Toyota Tacoma is a mid-size pickup truck that provides one with a comfortable and smooth ride, easy handling, excellent off-road capability and superior quality. You can choose from among a trio of styles as well as your choice of 2 or 4 wheel drive. Two engines are available for the Toyota Tacoma, the 4 liter V6 engine or the two point seven liter 4 cylinder.
Once the Undercover is installed, the cover is extremely easy to use. Just unlock the cover and lift it up to gain access to the bed. Then when you are done, close it down and latch it shut. The Undercover is lockable and the cover does overlap the tailgate when shut, making the back of the truck like a big trunk to protect your cargo. An LED dome light inside the cover provides light at night to be able to see in the bed of the truck. If your concern is keeping your cargo dry, the Undercover does a good job keeping water out. It wraps over the side rails of the truck bed and has a large seal which seals the cover to the bed rails. No tonneau cover is 100% water tight, but the Undercover is better at keeping out water versus other tonneau covers on the market.
Overall, the Undercover is a great tonneau cover and one of the best on the market. There really isn't a weakness with this cover other than the fact that it isn't available in a smooth finish to allow you to paint it and look like a fiberglass cover. It is easy to use, easy to install, very durable, very easy to remove and reinstall, and covered by a 3 year warranty. I would recommend this cover to anyone looking for a hard cover, you won't regret it.
