So, world-wide Acetonitrile shortage. I got to spend today calling every vendor I could think of to see if anyone could help my thirsty HPLC. Some places are so far behind they won't even sell it on backorder.

*sigh*

Anyone know how that happened? One sales rep told me a couple of stories, but she had no idea how true they were.

Tell me about it. When my supervisor told me, I just kind of stared at her in confusion. Of course, we were out of methanol for a while, too!

I'd imagine methanol is significantly easier to make, fortunately.

Aceto/methanol

Methanol is made on purpose.
You place an order, some producer will make it for you.
Aceto is byproduct of acrylonitrile producer.
If producer makes 3 lb of aceto for you, where will they sell the 97 lb of acrylo?
