So, world-wide Acetonitrile shortage. I got to spend today calling every vendor I could think of to see if anyone could help my thirsty HPLC. Some places are so far behind they won't even sell it on backorder.

*sigh*

Anyone know how that happened? One sales rep told me a couple of stories, but she had no idea how true they were.

Re: ACN Shortage

Ladies and gents, just a little feedback for all of you. I work for a supplier (VWR) and the shortage is due to a couple factors. One being the previously mentioned story regarding China's ceased production during the Olympics (for air quality improvements) and the other being the recent hurricane (Ike) that hit a major facility in the Texas gulf coast area. Hope that helps explain it. All the major suppliers are on allocation right now and the outlook for this problem extends well into the first quarter of 2009. Sorry for the bad news but hopefully knowing some details will help each of you plan accordingly.
