So, world-wide Acetonitrile shortage. I got to spend today calling every vendor I could think of to see if anyone could help my thirsty HPLC. Some places are so far behind they won't even sell it on backorder.

Anyone know how that happened? One sales rep told me a couple of stories, but she had no idea how true they were.

Shortage because Acetonitrile is a by product from Acrylonitrile which is not being used as much so production has halved causing acetonitrile shortage and ridiculous price rise.up to 20 fold price increase.Acetonitrile is difficult to replace in Pharma although companies are trying to find a replacement. How do I know all this?
I am in the business.

Re: acetonitrile

What do you have for a replacement?

Thank you,
